National Directory of Nonprofit Organizations 2002, 12th Edition

(Gale Group, 1999)

Published biannually, this two-volume directory is the “bible” for locating thousands of nonprofit organizations that are required to file 990 returns with the IRS. Uses the classification system and data available through the IRS. The directory lists each organization alphabetically. The first volume (in 2 parts) includes all nonprofits with annual incomes exceeding $100,000. The second volume focuses on nonprofits with annual incomes between $25,000 and $99,000. Each listing includes the name, address, annual income, IRS classification, and whether contributions to the organization are tax deductible. The directory also classifies the organizations by two useful indexes—activity and geography.

Foundations, endowment funds, scholarships, research centers, trusts, religious organizations, associations, chambers of commerce, hospitals, and universities are just a few of the kinds of influential organizations listed in Taft's National Directory of Nonprofit Organizations 2000. This is the most comprehensive guide to the growing nonprofit world, covering many nonprofit organizations required to file 990 returns with the Internal Revenue Service.

By providing the annual income figures, names, addresses and phone numbers of 250,000 organizations—nearly two-thirds of which have incomes in excess of $100,000—the Directory is an indispensable aid to sales and marketing professionals, insurance brokers, investment or financial consultants, lawyers, and other professionals who search the nonprofit sector for leads and contacts. It also serves nonprofit professionals in networking.

Entries are arranged alphabetically by organization and include: organization name, address, and phone number (when available); IRS filing status (or subsection code); exact annual income figure as indicated on the 990 filed with the IRS; employer identification number (EIN), a unique ID assigned to each organization by the IRS; deductibility code, which indicates whether the organization has tax-deductible status; activity code, which pinpoints in which of the 270 IRS-assigned activities the nonprofit organization is involved.

For fast research, National Directory of Nonprofit Organizations is organized in two volumes, available separately or as a set. Volume 1 lists organizations with annual revenues of $100,000 or more. Volume 2 covers organizations with annual revenues between $25,000 and $99,999. In addition, two step-saving indexes help you quickly locate the organizations you're looking for. The Activity Index groups organizations according to one of 270 specific activity terms. The Geographic/Income Index arranges nonprofit organizations by state and five-digit ZIP code and indicates the income range of the organization. Softcover, 6000 pages, $555. Also available individually: Vol. 1 (in 2 parts) 4,000 pages, $370.00; Vol. 2 2,000 pages, $240.00
